Bothering Blueberry: Fashion Jewellery Inspired by Nature's Revenge

Bothering Blueberry stands out from other fashion jewellery designs with its distinctive concept of nature's revenge. As humans continue to contribute to environmental pollution, this design aims to highlight the consequences of our actions. The jewellery features sharp and broken glass-like surfaces, symbolizing the punishment nature can inflict upon us. By selecting fruits and plants that are commonly found in our daily lives, the design emphasizes the connection between our actions and the environment.

The main material used in Bothering Blueberry is paper, specifically recycled paper, to promote sustainability. The paper is transformed using the paper mâché technique, which adds strength and durability to the jewellery. To further enhance its eco-friendly nature, the paper is dyed using natural dye powders. This combination of recycled materials and natural dyes ensures that the design aligns with environmentally conscious practices.

Each piece of Bothering Blueberry jewellery is meticulously crafted with attention to detail. The rings feature sharp edges, and all jump rings are handmade to maintain the punishing element. The movable balls on the rings are designed to hurt the skin with their sharp edges, serving as a constant reminder of the consequences of our actions. The design challenges the wearer to confront their impact on the environment and encourages them to take action.

The Bothering Blueberry project began in January 2019 in London and has since undergone continuous development. The design will be exhibited in London in June 2019, providing an opportunity for viewers to engage with the thought-provoking concept and explore the intersection of art, design, and environmental awareness.

Dayeong Shin's research for this design involved collecting various natural elements such as fruits and plants. These elements were observed and modified to create the punishing elements of the jewellery. Additionally, extensive experimentation with different types of paper and dyeing techniques was conducted to ensure sustainability and visual appeal.

Bothering Blueberry's commitment to sustainability presented a significant challenge during the design process. Finding the right paper that was both sustainable and biodegradable proved to be a difficult task. However, through perseverance and dedication, Dayeong Shin overcame this challenge and created a design that aligns with the project's environmental objectives.

Bothering Blueberry has been recognized for its excellence in design and innovation. The design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2019.
